Ewbank's also hold monthly Antique and Collectors' auctions.
As Surrey's leading auctioneers we pride ourselves on being a family firm providing the best service, knowledge and expertise.
Ewbank's have for some years been the premier antiques and fine art auctioneers in Surrey, and as a family run firm with the highest ethical standards we are dedicated to giving clients and buyers an efficient and friendly service. We have always maintained the highest standards, adhering to the principles of probity and ethics of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, of which Chris is a fellow, and the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, of which Ewbank’s are Members. Most of our new clients come to us on recommendation, from professional advisers or existing clients and as the costs of selling by auction in Central London have rocketed we have benefited from the general trend in recent years for more important items to be sold outside the capital.
Buyers can participate in all of our auctions from a computer or phone anywhere at the time that the auction is actually in progress through live audio and video links. This gives us an enhanced global marketing ability which we see as the way forward for the Fine Art auction profession; our investment in a strategy of embracing technological advances and updating our data storage facilities is maximising our ability to achieve the best possible prices for our clients. In the last six years our saleroom turnover has increased by 90%.
Auctioneering is in our blood, Chris Ewbank's great uncle and grandfather were property auctioneers in Weybridge in the 1940s. Now Andrew, Chris' son works in the business at Ewbank's. Being a family run firm we believe in he importance of the highest ethical standards.
Chris Ewbank has taken a very active part in the leadership of the profession within the UK. He has been a member of the Fine Arts Advisory Panel of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is past Chairman of its Art and Antiques Professional Group. He was also an elected Member of its International Governing Council ( the highest decision making body in the Institution). He joined the Committee of the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers & Valuers in 1994, (he first became a member in 1982), and was Chairman from 2000 - 2007. He was re-elected to Committee in 2015. He has also in recent years been on the Executive Committee of the British Art Market Federation and was one of the first to join the new City of London Company of Arts Scholars.
Chris is also the Founder and Chairman of the Association of Accredited Auctioneers, a collection of over 20 of the most prominent regional auctioneers in the UK who joined forces to market their services in selling Western Art and Antiques globally and to facilitating sales to Chinese mainland buyers. The Association held two sales of Western Art in mainland China in 2013/4 in association with Chinese auctioneers.
